DML 601 Digital Media Literacy

This course is an introduction to how digital media can be used in education to enhance learning. The goals of this class include:
  (1) The use of digital applications and on-line tools in education. 
  (2) The use of digital devices as student learning tools (e.g. electronic tablets, digital cameras, etc). 
  (3) Current trends and research related to the educational use of digital media. 
  (4) Criteria used to evaluate digital media tools and resources designed for educational settings. 
  (5) The design and implementation of exemplary technology-enriched curriculum.

Genetic Disease Case Studies (Middle to High School level)

This lesson integrates technology, constructivism and inquiry based science. A student role-play scenario as a geneticist and genetic counselor exploring different diseases and their inheritance patterns. students test out a career while practicing the basics of genetics. Mock medical test results and some medical texts are provided. Links to more reference materials provided.

The Case of the Deadly Spoons

This lesson integrates technology, constructivism and inquiry based science. A role-play scenario as a forensic scientist solving a possible crime involving a soup spoon where measuring and performing calculations with density are needed. Mock forensic materials are provided as well as links to purchase other materials.

Myths and Truths in Sexual and Reproductive Health

Health or anatomy students research common myths/truths about sexual and reproductive health while evaluating the validity of their internet sources. Research validation form included.
